Common questions
Where is OpenRight? I don't see an icon.
OpenRight works in the background, with no Dock or menu bar icon. To open its settings window, open OpenRight again from your Applications folder or with Spotlight.
Why does OpenRight need to be my default browser?
That is the only way macOS lets an app see the links you click in other apps. OpenRight opens supported links in their apps and passes every other link, unchanged, to the browser you pick in its settings. It does not store or track the links you click.
How do I choose which browser opens my other links?
Open OpenRight's settings window and pick your browser under "Other links open in".
A browser asked to become my default browser again
Browsers sometimes ask to be the default. When macOS asks you to confirm, choose Keep “OpenRight”. If OpenRight stopped being the default, open it again and click Make Default Browser, or pick it in System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Default web browser.
A link opened in my browser instead of the app
OpenRight only opens a link in an app that is installed on your Mac. Install the app, or check that its switch is on in OpenRight's settings.
How do songs open in my preferred music service?
In settings, choose Spotify, Apple Music or TIDAL under “Preferred Streaming Music App”. A song link from a different service then opens in your app, already showing the search results for that song, so you can play it right away. This needs an internet connection.
An Apple Music link opened in Music even though I prefer another app
Apple Music links clicked in Mail or Messages open in Music directly: macOS sends them there without going through the default browser, so OpenRight never sees them. The same links clicked in other apps, such as Slack or WhatsApp, are converted. TIDAL song links are not converted to other services, because TIDAL doesn’t publish song names.
Can I send a website to a specific app?
Yes. In settings, type the site (for example notion.so, or *.notion.so for all its subdomains) and click Choose App.
How do I stop using OpenRight?
Choose another default browser in System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Default web browser, then quit OpenRight from its settings window and move it to the Trash.
